CHICAGO (June 25, 2014) – The Pulp and Paper Research and Education Alliance (PPERA) has joined Two Sides North America, the non-profit organization that promotes and encourages the responsible production, use and sustainability of print and paper.

“PPERA regroups many professors and researchers that are working closely with college students across the country in the areas of paper science and engineering and graphic communications.  Our affiliation with them will greatly help us reach college students across the U.S. to spread the word about the benefits of using sustainably produced print and paper,” says Phil Riebel, President, Two Sides North America.

“PPERA brings together the educational and research institutions involved in pulp and paper as well as the broader bioproducts industries.  Our affiliation with Two Sides North America will provide the PPERA members with additional resources to support and be an advocate for the pulp and paper industry,” says Gary Scott of the PPERA.

The Pulp and Paper Education and Research Alliance (PPERA) is an alliance of universities with programs which are individually distinctive but which are similar in being committed to the advancement of the North American pulp, paper and allied industries.  The following institutions are members of PPERA:

•    Auburn University
•    Georgia Institute of Technology
•    University of Maine
•    Miami University
•    University of Minnesota
•    North Carolina State University
•    University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
•    University of Washington
•    Western Michigan University
•    USDA, Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory

Each of the PPERA university partners has various supportive relationships with industry and government designed to strengthen the contributions of higher education to the pulp, paper and allied industries. In recognition of these strategic partnerships, the university programs comprising PPERA will work together to develop synergistic programs in education, research, and service which are mutually beneficial and collectively leverage contributions to the pulp, paper and allied industries. Membership in PPERA places no limitations on participating institutions.  For more information about PPERA:  www.bbe.umn.edu/ExtensionandOutreach/BioproductsandRenewableEnergy/resources/PPERA/
